We acknowledge we are on Kaurna Miyurna land. The Dreaming is still living. From the past, in the present, into the future, forever.

The Wine, Weaving and Leatherworking event will be open 5pm-8pm in the Museum’s foyer and celebrates its highly successful Treasures of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition.

The event provides a great opportunity to visit the Museum after hours, enjoy a South Australian wine and the work of local artisans, and visit the exhibition.

The artisans include Victoria Benndorf from Stahlfäden, who will demonstrate the historical art of tablet weaving used to create detailed and beautiful belts, bands, and trims.

She will be joined by Doug Hazel from LHOH Leather Craft who will reveal the time-honoured tradition of leatherworking. Doug will have a selection of leatherwork for sale.

The Museum’s Café and Gift Shop will be open along with World Mammals Gallery on the Museum’s ground floor.

The winter Viking Festival will culminate in the two-day VikingFest, within the Museum’s grounds on the weekend of 28-29 June.

VikingFest will feature a Viking-age market, artisans, combat displays, axe throwing, a licensed tavern and even a Viking longship.

For those willing to stick their neck out, there will be photo opportunities in a fully functioning replica wooden stock, used in medieval times to restrain and punish criminals.

The Museum will host one more Friday night event leading up to VikingFest; the Galloway Jewellery Jam featuring Jam Factory jewellers on Friday 20 June.

All VikingFest events are proudly supported by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency and are free to attend.

With immersive experiences and unforgettable moments across the city this winter, this is no time to hibernate. Adelaide’s festival season is just warming up. Plan your season of winter adventures at ExperienceAdelaide.com.au/Winter.

Tickets to the Treasure of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition, which runs until 27 July, are $25. Concessions are available.

Demand to visit the exhibition on Friday night is expected to be high and the public are urged to pre-purchase tickets online.
